Explore We had a minimal amount of knowledge about plants. We knew why plants were green because the plants reflect green light. We have discovered a lot about plants. We have learned about how they reproduce. C-ferns use spores instead of seeds to germinate and reproduce. A question that interests us in how a plant can become a hybrid plant.
Research Question How does serial dilution effect the density of the spores?
Predictions We think that the more diluted the serum becomes, the less dense the spores will become, resulting in a larger male to female ratio.
Experimental Design 1. Have four dishes to inoculate. 2. Standard inoculation a dish. 3. Dilute the serum in 10 ml of water and inoculate a dish 4. Dilute the serum in 15 ml of water and inoculate a dish 5. Dilute the serum in 20 ml of water and inoculate a dish 6. Count the original amount of spores in the dishes 7. On the tenth and twelfth day count the amount of males and females 8. Record our data
Conclusion We concluded that the more serial dilution that the serum undergoes, the higher the ratio of females to males will be.
