Explore Scarification weakens, opens, or alters the seed. Some seeds are impervious to water and gases, preventing or delaying germination.
Research Question Does scarification improve germination rate?
Predictions Using our "material" will scratch the seed making it grow faster. Scratching the seed can weaken the shell making it easier to sprout them.
Experimental Design Rock, Plastic bags, Water, Peach seeds, Peas We'll have a control and we will change how long we scratch the seed and with what material.
Conclusion Scarification did improve the germination rate of the peas but the non-scarified peas grew taller compared to the scarified peas.
