Project by group smsramigfall2017

Explore We know that our plant is a type of grass. We learned this outside of school. In school, we learned that ryegrass is a thin grass. Questions that interest us about our plant are where does ryegrass come from, why is it so thin, and is it vascular or non vascular?
Research Question We want to test the different types of soil we use to see which plant germinates the best. Container A has mud, Container B has potting soil, and Container C has sand. We also already know that the potting soil is growing the best.
Predictions Our hypothesis is If we put ten ryegrass seeds into three different plastic containers filled with sand, mud, and potting soil, then the container full of potting soil will help the plants grow to their full potential.
Experimental Design Our experimental design is very simple. First we make three planters out of two liter bottles as shown in the image that was posted previously. Next, we fill the bottoms of each planter with water. Then, we put the strips of cut sock through the top part of the planter, and cover the socks with either mud, sand, and potting soil. Once the container is about halfway full we add our ryegrass seeds. Lastly, we cover the ryegrass seeds with either mud, sand, or potting soil. You have now planted your ryegrass seeds, and you are ready to take measurements when the seeds germinate.
Conclusion Our team has done a lot of work growing, measuring, and making observations. Our hypothesis was: “If we put ten ryegrass seeds in containers full of mud, sand, and potting soil, then the seeds in the container full of potting soil will germinate best.” It turned out that our hypothesis was correct. After all of our work, we have made our conclusion. According to our observations we have concluded that ryegrass seeds germinate best in potting soil. We have grown ryegrass seeds in potting soil, mud, and sand. We know that ryegrass seeds grow best in potting soil because the seeds in the potting soil container were the tallest, and there were also the most sprouts. On the whole, our experiment has taught us that ryegrass seeds germinate best in potting soil.
