They typically end up dying and decomposing. Plants need CO2 and sunlight to survive. The mass of the plant does not come the soil. Why do certain plants survive in the cold? |
Research Question |
Does temperature affect the rate which plants do photosynthesis? It shows if plants in colder in weather do photosynthesis faster than plants in warmer weather. |
Predictions |
The plants in hot water perform photosynthesis faster or the exact opposite happens or they perform the same time. Lauren thinks cold water will perform faster while the rest of think think the warm water will work better. Lauren thinks this because in the summer you water your plants in cold water while Nicki and I think it's because in the summer/spring plants get more CO2.We're testing to see if the weather affects the rate of photosynthesis. We're gonna record it through a stop watch and see how many disks float per minute. |
Experimental Design |
Our plan is to get a cup of cold water and a beaker of cold water, 6 spinach disks per cup, 3cm of water, and 1tsp of baking soda. We plan on sucking the oxygen out of the disks with the syringes. Then once we've got all the oxygen out, we'll get all the disks out of the syringes and into the correct cup and timing how many disks float up within 15 minutes. |
Conclusion |
We concluded that the plants in the hot water perform photosynthesis faster than the ones in cold water. By the end of six minutes, two of the leaves in the hot water were floating while zero in the cold water were floating. This shows how in the summer plants prosper because it’s hot, and plants die in the winter when it is cold. |
