In class we learned that photosynthesis for plants needs either water or light to grow. We were curious if salt water would make the plants grow faster. |
Research Question |
our research question is will using salt water instead of tap water change the rate of photosynthesis |
Predictions |
our prediction for this question was that using salt water would change the rate of photosynthesis. |
Experimental Design |
we will be using 125 ml of water with 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of backing soda into a cup. we will use another cup with just 1 tsp of backing soda. we will be measuring the distance from the light to the edge of the cups, it will be 2 inches away. we will be measuring the rate of photosynthesis so we will be using spinach leaves and take the oxygen out of them using a syringe, we will use 11 spinach disks per cup in case 1 doesn't sink. we will measure the rate of photosynthesis every minute |
Conclusion |
Our data shows putting salt in the water causes photosynthesis to occur faster. The spinach disk rose faster in the salt water then just the baking soda water. |
