Through some quick research, we found that carbonated water works better for plant germination and growth. We all have very little experience in dealing with plants (most of us have gardened). We also are very interested in how plants turn co2 into oxygen. |
Research Question |
How does different water affect seed germination? (also height) |
Predictions |
We think that the seltzer water will change the pH of the soil. Therefore affecting the environment the plant is germinating in, that in turn will affect the germination speed. |
Experimental Design |
Our team made the planting pots, by taking a small cylindrical container and cutting a hole into the bottom of it, then putting it in a bigger container. Then we cut a watering cord to a certain length, put it in the small container. We then added soil to the small container, taking care that we didn't let the cord get buried by the soil. We put one of the 3 types of water (Carbonated, Distilled, and Tap) in the big container. Then we put the small container in the big container. Then put the planting pots under the constant and programmable source of light. |
Conclusion |
Tap water plants turned out to be the fastest one to grow, but it had the least amount of sprouts.
These results were completely unanticipated, we think the seltzer water plants suffered from water deprivation. |
