Avocados from Mexico

Project by group dmsstiemspring2022

Explore Well first off we know that plants need photosynthesis and cellular respiration because without them they can get glucose or ATP energy. The requirements for germination are the right temperature, right amount of water, and oxygen. Photosynthesis is what makes glucose for the plant and that happens from the leaf. We know that plants go through photosynthesis using energy from the sun along with water and carbon dioxide to create glucose/food. The plant then uses the glucose along with oxygen to make ATP energy, used for growing. The seed absorbs water and begins to swell. It uses stored food supply for cellular respiration to create ATP for growth. During this it does not have the ability to do photosynthesis. The root sprouts first, pushing out of the seed and growing. The stem then sprouts.
Research Question How do the different types of water affect germination?
Predictions We perdict that the Tap water and the Figi water will cause the seed to germinate more then the sugar.
Experimental Design Step 1̈: Put paper towel and 10 seeds in four ziploc bag. Step 2̈: Label each ziploc with the type of water added into it. Step 3: Add 2 tbs of the correct type of water into each bag (tap, fiji, spakling, and salt water) Step 4: Observe the seeds and measure the total length of the seed in millimeters. Step 5: Repeat steps 3 & 4 for 5 days.
Conclusion Claim: Tap and Fiji water affect germination by making it faster. Evidence: In our investigation Tap and Fiji water grew the most and the fastest. By the second day the seeds being water by tap and Fiji water all germinated and some started to sprout. For the sugar water all but one germinated and none of the salt water seeds germinated. Our test was somewhat Reasoning-Our pearl millet seeds germinated the first night after growing. Our tap water and Fiji water were pretty much the same and had the most growth. We think this because Fiji water and tap water grew the first overnight. They both got the same amount of light and water. The first night that the plants were under the light the saltwater grew the most surprisingly then it started to not grow so tap and Fiji was the best. I do feel like this was a very fair test with correct data.
