Explore Plants need to germinate first before they grow Plants need three thing ignorer to germinate, Water, Tempeture, and a good location There are multiple stages of growing Plants can do both photosynthesis and secular respiration They are a pager part of the food chain
Research Question What seed will germinate faster if it's in a cold, hot, or average environment?
Predictions We think the hot environment will grow because the hot environment produces more light.
Experimental Design Step 1) Lay out 6 Petri Dishes on a table Step 2) Lay a damp paper towel in the dishes and place 3 mustard seeds in each dish. Step 3) Place two of the dishes in the fridge Step 4) Get two more of the 6 dishes and place them on a heating pad and stick in a dark room Step 5) Grab the last two dishes and place them in a dark room that is room temperature Step 6) Every day give the seeds 3 teaspoons of water
Conclusion Claim: The seeds that grew the best were the room temperature climate seeds. Evidence: Our investigation did not go as planned because we didn’t pay as much attention as we should've. Our plants on the heating pad dried out, the plants in the fridge were over-watered and drenched in water. they didn't soak up anything and just sat in water. The plants in the cabinet we suspected we over watered. We stopped measuring the water so it was completely off. Reasoning: When we met our mentor she told us that all climates would be great for the mustard seed. When we went into this investigation and our project we were not aware of what may happen and some obstacles we also did not do as much research as needed. We didn’t measure the water in the end so each seed got different amounts of water and the ones in the fridge died or never started germinating because they got drenched in water, they were not soaking in any water. For the heating pad we didn’t watch very carefully if they were getting water or if the paper towel was dry. The room temperature had a malfunction there was no reason they died. They got plenty of sunlight through the crack of the cabinet doors and the water we gave them was enough for them to live.
