Seeds are living even in the packet, they are just in a dormant state. they do cellular respiration before they can do photosynthesis. they need 3 conditions to live, water, temp., and location. they get there food/nutrients from the seed. |
Research Question |
If we change how much light the plant gets will it change how much it grows? |
Predictions |
If the seed gets more light then it will grow faster than the seed without light. We think this because light can help with the timing of germantion. Because we are not planting our seeds in dirt light may have a bigger effect on the germanation of a seed. It could help keep the seeds warmer than to not have light, it could be colder. Helping it stay a little bit colder can help it to grow better and start to do photosynthisus once it big enough and grows leaves. |
Experimental Design |
So we are going to take 4 boxes, and in the first one there will be no holes in it. On the second box there will be 1 hole on each side and it will be 1 inch tall and 1 inch wide. The 3rd box will have 2 holes one each side same measurements, then the 4th seed won't be in a box. We will water the corn seed 15ml every other day. The temperature of the water will be same, 70 degrees. The light will get turned on in the morning, each day, no seed will have access to light longer or one seed having light and others not. We are trying to see if the plant without light will grow faster compared to the seed with light. |
Conclusion |
In conclusion The box with the little holes grew the most. We think this is because it was the darkest and had the perfect amount of light. We thought that the bag with no box would grow the most because it has more access to sunlight than the other boxes/bags. The one with the little holes actually got the most light, that is probably because the sunlight got in at many different angles or spots. |
