-plants need oxygen, light, and water to grow
-Cellular respiration and photosynthesis are 2 processes that plants go through
-When plants have too much water in them they will drown
-When plants have too much light they may dry out if you don't water them. |
Research Question |
How does the amount of water affect how fast the plant germinates? |
Predictions |
When the seed is watered with to much water the seed won't be able to hold that much water in it even when it swells up. The plant may drown and die because there was too much water. |
Experimental Design |
Petri Dish: put paper towel on the bottom of 5 Petri Dish. We arn´t going to put any soil in our Petri Dish. Procedure:
1.put paper towel in petri dish to form 3-4 layers
2. put the right amount of water in petri dish
3. put seeds in petri dish
4. label the bottle 1,
5. Water the bottles with different amounts of water with 10 seeds in each.
Independent variable: amount of water
Dependent variable: how long the plant takes to germinate
Variables to control: How much light, how much soil, how close to light, keep in open container, keep temperature the same
We will record our data by taking out the seeds every day and measure how the seed has changed in cm. |
Conclusion |
Our conclusion was that 3 ML germinated the most out of all of them, we think this because because according to “ The importance of water in seeds”, states that, “the first stage of germination is when the seeds are absorbing a lot of water, and if there is too much in the soil, or dish the plant can’t take in that much water and it will drown.” I think the reason why 3 ML germinated the best was because the seeds could share the water equally and didn’t have to try to take in as much as they could like they probably did with 12 ML of water. |
