germination is when the seed of a plant starts to grow
you need to have 3 things for a seed to start germination Water, good location, and the right
temperature.
seeds go through a sort of stasis period where it doesnt do anything until its ready to start growing |
Research Question |
How does the depth of a seed affect its germination rate? |
Predictions |
If a seed is planted at 5 mm then that seed will germinate the fastest. |
Experimental Design |
1) Gather materials: 40 Radish seeds, 4 clear water bottles, 1 Ruler, 1 sharpie, soil,A water source and Light source
2)Soak your seeds for 24 hours
3) Set up your water bottles
4) mark your seed line and fill line
5) fill water bottle with soil till the seed line
6)place seed in water bottle
7)fill with soil till fill line.
8) observe every depth of seeds and record data
9) repeat step 8 for 9 days |
Conclusion |
In conclusion the seed that is placed at 10 mm will germinate the fastest. We know this because our data showed that the 10 mm was the fastest to get all seeds germinated while the 0 mm(or surface) took longer because the water was in the soil which was under it.This happens because it is placed right in the middle which lets it soak up the water that is produced in the soil. But it also was able to grow to the top very fast. |
