Some things my group knows about plants and germination that relate to our investigation question are: Plants need water to survive. Plants need water for photosynthesis, a key factor needed for the plant to survive. Another thing my group knows about plants is, if you give the plant too much water, it will drown. A question about plants that interests us is: What liquid makes germination the fastest? Something about plants that we have discovered in class and through background research is: Plants don't do well under intense heat. We found this out because one of the groups was burning seeds for their project. |
Research Question |
Our research question is: How do different types of liquids affect seed germination? |
Predictions |
We think that the caprisun or the water will work best because the caprisun has sugar in which could help the plant, and the water is a natural liquid for plants. |
Experimental Design |
1. Get four petri dishes and 2. set a paper towel in each petri dish. 3. Fill the paper towels with each liquid [ 10 milliliters of each liquid] and 4. set the paper towels in each petri dish. 5. Then put eight alfalfa seeds in each petri dish, 6. close it up and watch it grow. |
Conclusion |
Our conclusion is that water is the best option for germinating seeds out of the other options [coffee, Caprisun, diet Dr. Pepper], probably because it is a natural element, and it is what plants in the ground use. A possible liquid that could be tested is sparkling water, because it might be different because of the carbonation. |
