Research Question |
Research Question: What is temperature's effect on Photosynthesis? |
Predictions |
Predictions: Room temperature will have the highest rate of photosynthesis because being too cold or hot will denature the cells. |
Experimental Design |
Experimental Design (Materials & Methods):
Materials:
-hot plate
-hot mitts
-ice cubes
-syringe
-3 beakers (around 200-300 ml)
-3-4 leaves
-high-powered lamp
-hole puncher
-distilled water
-baking soda
-stopwatch/clock
-3 blank labels
-liquid soap
Fill three beakers with 200 ml water. One have water with ice, one room tempreature, and one boiling water.
Cut 30 different leaf disks.
Add 1-2 drops of soap into each cup.
Place 10 leaf disks in a syringe, and suck in a little water from the cold water beaker.
Repeatedly put your finger on the end suck in the air until all of the leaf disks aren’t floating.
Repeat 4 and 5 for the room temperature and hot water beakers.
Pour each set of 10 disks into the beakers corresponding to their temperature.
Place each beaker under a high power lamp.
Turn on the lamp, and every 2 minutes record how many leaf disks are floating for 20 minutes. |
