||Group 7 knows from outside school experiences that water, carbon, and sunlight/energy is required for photosynthesis to happen. Group 7 knows from notes taken in class that the plastid contains the pigments in a plant cell and that there are multiple variations of color in pigments. Group 7 learned from past experiments that Light, Water and Carbon are important for photosynthesis to happen. Group 7 is interested in by the question: Do different types of plant go through photosynthesis at different rates? Mrs. Tschauder recommend that group 7 instead research if different variations of pigment colors in the Swiss Chard species of plant go through photosynthesis at different rates.
||Does the pigment of the leaf stem change and effect a the process because of there slight differences? Change they are testing, to see if the Red Swish Chard or the Yellow Swish Chard float faster, they predicted the yellow would float faster, They got there idea from the teacher, she gave them the idea and the platform.
||If yellow and red Swiss chard leaf disc in baking soda solution then the yellow Swiss chard leaf disc will float faster. So a team would agreed on that the yellow Swiss chards disc will have more photosynthesis. So the disc will have more yellow Swiss chards disc floating. Group 7 also agreed that since the yellow Swiss chard leaf grew bigger group 7 think that it did more photosynthesis instead of the red Swiss chard leaf. Group 7 thought that since the red Swiss chard plant grew smaller group 7 think that’s the red Swiss chard grew as big as it can get.
||Group 7 said that the independent variable was the Swiss chard stem had different pigments. So their dependent variable was which Swiss chard disc float faster/ different rates. They decided that the control group were the yellow Swiss chard leaf disc. They agreed that the experimental group was the red Swiss chard leaf disc. The constants that they kept the same were the amount of baking soda solution that you put the leaf disc in and the amount of soapy water used to get the leaf disc to sink. the same also the amount of Swiss chard leaf disc used which was 10.What group 7 would do is they would get 10 leaf disc of each of the yellow and red Swiss chard plants. Then group 7 would get the soapy water and get the leaf disc to sink in a syringe make sure they sink to the bottom. Then get two cup and make sure to label them correctly then put the leaf disc's in the cups. Then set the cups with the disc in the plant light and wait 8 minutes and check every minute to see which Swiss chards leaf had more disc floating.
||Group Sevens claim was that the Yellow Swiss chard disc would float faster, but the results showed that their initial hypothesis was off by a large amount. Red ended up floating a lot faster than Yellow swiss chard disc . By 8 minutes that we timed the Yellow swiss Chard disc had 0 floating. On the other hand the Red Swiss chard disc had 6 floating. Their reasoning was that the red Swiss chard leaves received more sunlight than the yellow Swiss chard disc. A problem they faced was they had to start over because they couldn’t get the yellow Swiss chard to sink in the syringe and they had to try multiple times above the recommended amount to get them to sink. So because of that problem it could have affected the leaf disc chance to float.
