  • Organization
    University of Michigan

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My research interests include plant evolution, plant response, climate, paleobotany, paleoclimate, and paleoecology. I'm interested in how plants are affected by climate.

  • Profile Question 1
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Science was pretty challenging in high school. I wasn't getting perfect scores and had to put in actual hours of studying. I treated science in high school like any other class, try to do my best. We did have some cool labs in chemistry though! I would also note that not in my wildest dreams I would be in graduate school pursuing a Ph. D. in Paleobotany.

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I would definitely say writing is the hardest part of being a scientist. I used to think that presenting my research in front of other scientists would be the hardest, however I'm learning how important and difficult it is to be a good writer and communicate my science to a broad audience.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
I didn't have many people to rely on to ask and talk about college let alone a career in science. My best advice is follow what interests you, be curious, and don't be afraid to ask.
