  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am a post-doctoral researcher in a Swiss Plant Science Research institute. My work focuses on how plants produce vitamins and how vitamins help plants overcome environmental stress conditions, such as heat. In the past I also work on the regulation of photosynthesis and on fungal-root symbioses.

  • Profile Question 1
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
I remember when I was in high school I was not very interested in science. This was probably because I felt that scientific discoveries were often explained in a superficial way. Science looked like "magic" to me and I could not find a logic behind this. It is only later that I discovered how scientists really work to make new discoveries. I also learned that we still do not have the answer to many fundamental questions.

  • Profile Question 2
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
The best thing of being a scientist is that for most of the time you do things nobody has ever done before and chances are you will be the first person ever to observe a phenomenon.

  • Profile Question 3
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Being a scientist can sometimes be frustrating, especially when you don't get the results that you want. A scientist must be very patient and learn to always start from the beginning. We also have to remind yourself every time why we chose this career: to improve people's nutrition, to preserve the environment, to extend human knowledge and so on.

This seems wise. I'll wait for future updates then.

Dear all, why are you doing what you are doing? What do you expect to happen? What is the role of phenol and other components you are using? What are you going to measure/observe?

Independent Crew Elisa Dell'Aglio

Nice, but what are you doing exactly? Could you  describe all your experimental setup and starting material in a way it could be possible for me to do the same here in my own lab?
