  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My main research interest is the study of the flavonoid and anthocyanin pathway in non model plants, especially those from the neotropics. I dedicated my undergrad dissertation to the study of anthocyanin production in Aristolochiaceae flowers.

  • Profile Question 1
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
I got my first view of science through my brothers who was a biology undergrad while I was in high school. He bought me a Richard Dawkins book and quizzed me about biology every time he could. I was particularly good at my biology and chemistry classes in high school too, so that also made me consider a science career. Plus, being called a scientist is pretty great, haha!

  • Profile Question 2
Can you share a funny/interesting lab or field story?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
We had a coffee machine in our lab and at the end of the day we took turns to wash it so it was ready to make coffee the next morning. One day I had to stay late but someone washed the coffee pot and left it on a bench, very close to the edge. I ended up breaking it! it was the worst! No one got to drink coffee the next days because of me... I felt really bad, ha ha!

Hi Katelyn,

This looks pretty good!

Maybe could also consider that many trees and animals have a long history, and their interactions can be very specific. You could look for the different tree species (using tools like iNaturalist App)…
