  Family Asteraceae, Genus Vernonia. Studied the ecological survey, morphology, cytogenetics and reproductive biology of sixteen tropical species for a PhD degree award and subsequent post doctoral research activities.

  What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  The discovery of bristles of various sizes and shapes on the surface of seemingly smooth hair-like strands of pappus on fruits (achenes) of Vernonia species. These occurrences served in delimiting between species and identification of growth forms - herbs, shrubs or trees.

Good to read your report about your work. Talking about reporting, there are unique practices by Scientists over times, of detailing what they have done, with what they did it and their observed outcomes. By this means, a universal and acceptable approach has been put in place. Now let us expatiate further what this entail. Every work has a TITTLE which in brief, gives an idea of the work. MATERIALS AND METHODS details how the work and with what, was done. Next is the section on RESULTS. This stipulates all observations made, both qualitative and quantitative.  From the results, conclusions are drawn by the investigator(s). The beauty of this type of mind set is that, even without these sub-titles (in capitals) every report displays the different sections briefly and clearly, such that any other scientist can replicate the work (ie Experiment). You can go through your report and see how close it is to this approach.

I am glad to read that you’re already enjoying the fun in learning about plants! It’s just a beginning, the tip of the iceberg! Cheers.
