  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in understanding how plants coordinate nutrient export from leaves with seed development, particularly when they are under stress. Specifically, I want to learn about how the leaves respond to low iron availability in the soil.

  • Profile Question 1
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Plants are sneaky. Since they are unable to move from one location to another, they've been able to evolve really elegant mechanisms for fighting against things that could eat them. For example, when some plants sense that they are being chewed on, they start to make chemicals that will attract predators of the organism that's chewing on them.

Hi Abby! Thanks for introducing yourself! Not trying to sway your opinion either way, but I really love biochemistry and majored in it when I was in college. I minored in chemistry, so I also love it too, but I definitely preferred biochem. But it…
