    Biology in general but plant biology specifically. Have worked on nitrogen transport and rhizobial associations in soybean. Am currently looking at fruit ripening pathways in apple, pears, and tomatoes. As well as how soil amendments such as biochar can affect plant growth and development.

    When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

    There is constantly something new and amazing to discover. Also, I believe people should never stop learning and I am always seeking knowledge and ways to help improve science literacy in the world.

    Can you share a funny/interesting lab or field story?

    My lab was helping me harvest some soybeans and we had to use liquid nitrogen to freeze our sample. However, we left a container of it on a high stool and while reaching down, I bumped into it and a small amount got on my hair! At first I was freaking out but it didn't hurt at all and my hair had this really cool (ha) flowing trails of liquid nitrogen evaporating for a couple minutes.
