  Plant developmental and cell biology, particularly connection between cell proliferation and development. I use higher plants and simple algal model systems to look at fundamental processes in the plant cell.

  I was interested in chemistry and biology, but I had only a very vague idea about what a career in science might look like. Probably because I didn't know anyone, friend or family, who worked in research. Also, I was doing too much sports all the time to really have time to think about it.

  Can you share a funny/interesting lab or field story?

  I was working as an undergraduate on an organic synthesis that required many steps. When I had the final compound in my hand my supervisor told me to gather all the intermediates for mass spectrometric analysis. I had thrown them all into the glass waste. I had to put on thick rubber gloves (fortunately available in a chemistry lab working with strong acids) and dig through the broken glass all day. Fortunately I found them all. We could run the mass spec and publish the paper. Lesson - think ahead when you're working at the bench.

Let me know how it is going. From what I saw, you may be given a pre-made data set to work with. Let me know if you want any input/ideas about that.

It is unfortunate that you have to cancel the project, but under the circumstances that is probably the sensible thing to do. Hopefully you will get something out of working with another data set. I am certainly happy to help with that…

It is unfortunate that you have to cancel the project, but under the circumstances that is probably the sensible thing to do. Hopefully you will get something out of working with another data set. I am certainly happy to help with that too if you have any questions. Most important thing of course is that everyone is doing ok now. 

The virus has basically closed down stanford university and carnegie, so I am pretty much forced to stay home and watch the kids. There is not much I can do from home, so the research is coming to a halt too.
