  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My current research objectives are to confirm the presence of the Downy Mildew pathogen on Quinoa in New Hampshire and document and describe symptoms on species infected in the field as well as comparing these isolates collected in New Hampshire with those in other parts of the United States and South America.

  • Profile Question 1
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
I have always been interested in science for as long as I can remember, originally I wanted to go to medical school to be a doctor, however, during my sophomore year in college I developed a strong interest and passion for botany after taking environmental science and policy classes. During my junior year, I decided that I wanted to continue my education after my Bachelor's degree to ultimately have a career in academia in order to have the opportunity to be a part of innovative research but also to teach and inspire a younger generation of plant biologists.

  • Profile Question 2
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
My favorite plant would have to be the resurrection plant (Selaginella lepidophylla) because of its unique ability to survive extreme desiccation and dry conditions. It was definitely one of the coolest plants I learned about in school!

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
My biggest advice for those wanting to pursue a career in science is to not get discouraged by the work and commitment required to succeed in the field and never underestimate yourself.

Hi Ryan,

That is a very good question, I personally do not know much about corn seeds but it is very important that all of your different tests are only changing with one variable. So if your seeds will be germinating in the dark in the fridge,…
