Profile Question 1What is your favorite plant? Why?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):Liriodendron tulipifera - the tulip poplar! Mostly because its scientific name is fun to pronounce. Also I like Mimulus guttatus, the common yellow monkeyflower, because have done research with it.
-
Profile Question 2What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):I designed an experiment for my high school science fair to see how water evaporates from containers that had different surface areas. It was fun, and even though I didn't get an award, I still learned a lot about the scientific process.

Profile Question 3Can you share a funny/interesting lab or field story?
-
Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):One time a young coyote walked onto an area of land where I was surveying flower color in California. We both stood very still when we noticed each other. After looking at each other for a minute, I waved my hands, and the coyote scampered away!

Hi there Rey,
How cool! Yes, when you look at pollen really up-close, the grains have some fascinating shapes, especially when you use really hi-tech microscopes, like a scanning electron microscope. I've tried to attach a picture in the…
