Research Interests (300 words)
I am Alireza Golnaragh Ghomi, a permanent resident of Canada. I am a plant virus researcher who has been dealing with viruses, their vectors, host plants and ecology. I am studying on viruses based on their morphological, biological, serological and molecular properties. For this reason, I use different approaches of genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics as well; bioinformatics are considered as valuable tools for evolutionary studies of viruses. In this way, I have published several scientific papers and some books, and participated in many different international conferences. Recently, I’ve also started studying on microbial communities of plants.
I have been involved in teaching and researches for more than 13 years. During these years, I have been performing many research projects with my colleagues or other scientists from Japan, Australia, Vietnam, etc. Recently, I moved from Toronto to Vancouver to do my researches on marine microbes here in UBS under Prof. Suttle’s supervision. Fortunately, the job is part time, and so, I can perform my mentoring tasks and my researches at UBS at the same time. And also, both of the subjects of my researches and mentoring are closely related to each other. So, I can use my hot and fresh studies on marine microbes during my teaching and share my experiences to the students.
Having many years of teaching and researches experiences in the area of biology and supervising and advising many students, I am able to transfer my knowledge to students easier and in a more efficient way. So, I think I can do this job with a good quality. Of course, I will do my best to improve the knowledge of my students to be more useful and more efficient for their family, their community, their country and for our planet, the Earth.
