  • Profile Question 1
What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
My first science experiment was in middle school for the science fair. My partner and I grew some peanuts. Because we lived in Illinois, we had no idea how peanuts grew. It was very basic, but we won a ribbon.

  • Profile Question 2
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
This is true for any career: good communication skills, eager to learn and a positive attitude go a long way.

  • Profile Question 3
What is a typical day like for you?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
I work as a plant pathologist. In the summer, I am busy inspecting crops, mostly vegetables for plant pest issues. These crops are being grown for seed to be exported out of the country. If I do not know what the disease is in the field, I collect samples and test them in the lab. When our inspections are done, I send reports to the companies growing the crops.
