Describe your teaching experience and interests in a brief public biography (200 words)
I've been teaching high school science for 13 years, and for most of this time my main focus in the classroom is to have students think on their own using content knowledge. My flagship project every year is my culminating "Science in the Community" project. For the project students investigate community issues, i.e. obesity, tree canopy, loss of habitat, etc., and through an investigation determine if there's a problem, i.e. lack of tree canopy is correlated with higher road noise and smog rates, and come up with solutions about how to address them. The project ultimately drives students to get involved with community leadership/stakeholders to create a solution to the issue they researched. In many of the research projects students find their own resources outside of school, i.e. professors, sensors, etc.
