  When leaves get old, they turn yellow. Our lab discovered that the formation of flowers causes the older leaves to turn yellow. We are trying to find genes that allow this communication to occur.

Thank you for sharing your table with the data and the graph. There are many reasons the kale could be darker green. One is more chlorophyll, two might be more of a different pigment called carotenoids. I think your hypothesis of more chlorophyll: more photosynthesis (and oxygen formed) was logical. But it looks like the two species floated at about the same time. What happened when the kale got moved? Was it to lower light? Or did moving cause the leaf disks to float/sink?

Will have to try the pecan crunch oatmeal latte!

Thanks for sharing the new results (and clarifying the previous results). The light intensity would make a big difference. Light is measured in photons (packets of light energy) and plants absorb photons during photosynthesis and convert the photons into chemical energy. This chemical energy is then used to produce sugar. This is primary photochemistry!!!

Are you able to go outside during your experiments? It might be good to compare dark, near a window and outside and count how many bubbles form (or how many leaves float) after 10-15 minutes. If you can find a way to measure the difference, you can make a graph of your results. You could even do this with near a window, far from a window and in the dark (if you can't go outside during class).

Fall drink? Hmmm? I think the pumpkin lattes are kind of sweet and the first few sips are delicious but after a few sips, I am done. I do like a tart apple cider...yummm. How about your favorite fall drinks? Maybe there is something I should try!!
