  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in all things plant science. Personally, I have been involved in research projects pertaining to taxonomy, microbiomes, plant hyperaccumulation, and rhizosphere activity. However, I am excited to mentor students participating in a variety of projects related to plant science.

  • Profile Question 1
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Question everything! Be willing to ask questions and admit you don't know things. Get involved and volunteer in a lab as soon as you are old enough.

  • Profile Question 2
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Personally, I think everything about plants is amazing. However if I had to pick on thing about them that I think is the coolest, it would be that plants can actually talk to each other. When plants are sick or in danger, they can give off chemical signals that are used to talk to neighboring plants letting them know to be prepared for a danger that is coming their way.

  • Profile Question 3
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
I first discovered my love of Biology when I was in high school. I liked the things I was learning and found that I was pretty good at it. I took an AP Biology class my senior year and found it very challenging but engaging. I pursued a Bachelor's in it and that is when I discovered how great plants were. I took a plant taxonomy course and learned what the names of all of the plants around me were and started volunteering in a taxonomy lab. I took on a project and fell in love with science and later went on to graduate school to study Botany.

I think these are excellent questions! Do you have a hypothesis on the answers to these questions? Also, a good thing to start thinking about when you make questions are the variables you plan to measure and how you plan to measure them.…

Hi Justice, thank you for sharing your experiment with me. This is super neat!

What was your hypothesis at the beginning of the experiment? Are these the results you expected to see? why/why not?
