    Research Interests include the following: (a) Effect of plant based medicine versus antibiotics against bacterial infections; (b) Effect of plants on desalination of excess salt from snow runoffs (halophyte research); (c) Effect of used coffee grounds on weed removal and turf management (d) Effect of biochar on increasing seed germination in tomato plants; (d) Effect of Mg in plants on human mineral content in vegetarians; (f) Effect of plants in reducing cytotoxicity of chemotherapy.

    When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

    I am fascinated by Nature and the transdisciplinary effects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Math. Therefore, I worked as a Textile Engineer/technologist for 15 years before starting a school and today my goal is to showcase to students that science is ubiquitous.

    What is your favorite plant? Why?

    My favorite plant is the Hibiscus( Malvacea). I believe it has so many benefits to offer and there are more than 400 varieties and many of them have still not been studied. As of now, my research shows that Hibiscus has many medicinal properties and I would like to understand more about the species.

    What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

    I am discovering that every medical cure has its basis in plants and today because of sophisticated instrumentation like mass spectrometry, we can identify the chemicals in the plants that are beneficial to humans.
