    I study how plants became different species (speciate), how plants are related, and their adaptations that allow them to persist in their environment. For example, aquatic plants have specific anatomy that allow them to persist underwater while desert plants have other morphological adaptations to live in arid environments. I specifically study plant evolution and adaptation in the legume/bean family, an economically important family with many crop species (soy, chickpea, pinto beans, peanuts).
