I study how climate change is affecting plants in the desert. Studying plants from the desert is interesting because the heat and dryness of the desert is stressful for plants, and to cope with that stress they have special adaptations. Because there are different ways to adapt to a hot and dry environment, plants growing in the desert are very diverse, coming in all different shapes and sizes, and growing at different times of year. While the first desert plant that comes to mind might be a cactus, lots of other plants grow in the desert too, like oak trees, sunflowers, and grasses. Plants are important parts of desert ecosystems because they provide habitat and food for animals like birds, and having a diverse plant community is essential because biodiversity leads to ecosystem stability. However, climate change might be threatening this biodiversity of plants. Climate change is causing deserts to become hotter and drier quickly, and we don't know how plants will respond to this climate change and if they will be able to adapt to these environmental changes fast enough. In my research, I study how climate change is causing changes in plants' traits and genetics, with the goal of understanding if plants are experiencing rapid evolution due to climate change.

Great thinking—I agree that these factors could introduce variation into your results!

I especially think that human error could explain why there is a different amount of variation between treatment groups. For example,…
