Plants, when they experience higher temperatures than optimum, morphological changes are observed which is termed thermomorphogenesis. Thermomorphogenesis is a collective term for several growth defects, observed in plants when they are grown in high ambient temperatures, such as hypocotyl and petiole elongation, hyponasty, and early flowering followed by poor seed yield. This is of particular interest to me because of the obvious reasons- global warming and food security. Understanding the molecular mechanism that controls this phenomenon can help us to run breeding programs to generate high-temperature resilient crops which would help in the betterment of society.

  • Profile Question 1
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
    Scizygium jambolanum
Because this was the first plant, I sowed the seed for in my childhood and it grew with me. I have learned about polyembryony from this plant. I love the fact that being sweet in taste helps with diabetes. I like the berries and I love to eat the seeds in the fruit and sometimes I eat its young leaves and I love its taste.

  • Profile Question 2
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
In my high school. Sketching plant anatomy diagrams was something that became my hobby. I started admiring plants' diverse anatomical structures. Gradually I developed a FEEL for plant science.

  • Profile Question 3
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Well, there exists nothing that can be considered tough for a scientist.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
    2
