  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am working on a master's thesis that involves collecting and identifying every vascular plant at my research site. I work in the university herbarium pressing my specimens and organizing the collection. I have a passion for field botany, I love going into the field and identifying every single plant! I am interested to hear about new projects and I love getting involved in any way I can.

  • Profile Question 1
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The coolest thing I have discovered in the field would have to be a huge waterlily rhizome that was about 4 feet long! It was all scaley looking and I couldn't tell what the heck I was looking at, I thought it was an animal!

  • Profile Question 2
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I knew from a young age that I was going to be a scientist. I thought I really wanted to be a vet, doctor, or work for the Forest Service/DNR. My goals shift every year but now I am consistently on track to be a great field botanist. In the past two years I have decided I wanted to focus on plants mostly but I still love the entire field of biology.

  • Profile Question 3
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
It's always okay to leave a question unanswered, and it is okay to say I don't know when someone asks you something pertaining to your field. We aren't responsible for knowing absolutely everything and I love that sense of community when you are out in the field with multiple different kinds of biologists. Go on a walk with a botanist, geologist, ornithologist, herpetologist and it will be three hours long and you will only go one mile!
