  • Time Zone
    Pacific

  • Organization
    San Diego State University

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
My research interests are focused on evolution of native plants, specifically finding who is related to who and how a particular factor influences a plant's ability to adapt to climate change. My thesis is revolving around how the sex of a plant affects their interactions with pollinators.

  • Profile Question 1
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
I grew up watching Animal Planet and National Geographic more than Cartoon Network and this inspired me to pursue life sciences as a career. Moreover I come from a country that depends on plants for everything including meds, cosmetics and utensils thereby leading me to follow Plant Science.

  • Profile Question 2
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I think the best part is being able to make a difference in the society. Science holds the capacity to create a positive influence on society by tackling urgent challenges, creating novel technologies, and discovering solutions to significant problems. This gives me a sense of fulfillment.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Be curious, patient and take deep breaths. As a graduate student in plant science, I have seen many failed experiments yet every single failure will teach you something new. So be patient and see every failure or unexpected turn as a new opportunity to learn. Remember and Reflect on the positive impact your work can have on the society. Pay attention to your physical and mental health.
