Profile

  • Time Zone
    Central

  • Organization
    College of Lake County

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
In college I studied the ecology of mosses - how their environment influences their growth and reproduction; but now, I'm interested in studying how students learn and stay motivated in science courses and what tools might be most effective for learning

  • Profile Question 1
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Perpetual curiosity and being surrounded by open minded curious people

  • Profile Question 2
What is tough about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
writing...figuring out how to communicate, but especially in the written form, is very challenging - keep writing...think first just about talking (on paper) and then go back and refine it...almost like writing a speech rather than thinking about writing a paper....consider your audience, key points, and what the "take away" should be

  • Profile Question 3
What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
I think the most memorable was in 5th grade...we built a carboard box maze and tested whether mice, hamsters, or guinea pigs were the smartest based on how efficiently they could find the food

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
    1
