  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
Due to climate change, there has been an increase in the number of juniper shrubs in central Texas. The invasion of this region by the shrub may not seem beneficial, in that they may affect the soil stored seedbank - seedbanks are propagules or future vegetation lying dormant. My research investigated how the invasion of juniper has affected the soil stored seedbank and understory vegetation.

  • Profile Question 1
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Just like any other career, the passion to add value to body of knowledge and not just making money should be the motivation to having a science career. Keep being curious, ask questions and find methods in answering your questions. If you do not get the expected results, that is cool too, it will not be science if we are sure of the outcome.

  • Profile Question 2
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
During my undergraduate research, we were the first group to carry out the chromosome studies of some species of Commelina in Nigeria, we are so proud of ourselves.

  • Profile Question 3
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
My attitude towards science was very good. I naturally gravitate towards biology and I got into troubles few times with my Biology teacher because it was as though I was showing off. However, I got here today due to the mentorship of my science teachers, they were able to guide my curiosities and point me to the right materials. This is why I am interested in paying it forward, being smart is not enough, mentorship will help sharpen the rough edges.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
