    I am interested in plant systematics which is studying the evolution and diversity between groups of plants. I am also interested in variation of different traits caused by the diversification of plants.

    What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
    I have many favorite plants, but if I had to choose one it would be Big bluestem. This plant is a very tall grass (6-8ft) that is found in prairies across the United States. Another name for this plant is turkey foot because the seed head parts three ways. A cool fact is fire helps stimulate new growth of Big bluestem!

    What is a typical day like for you?

    A typical weekday looks like for me is going to campus to work on my research, teach undergrad lab and attend grad classes. My favorite part of the day is playing scientific hangman with my labmates during lunch.

    The best part of being scientist is being able to do conduct research that you're passionate about and making a difference in the scientific world!
