  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I study evolutionary history, and have done most of my work with Legume evolutionary trees. I love providing resources to other scientist by working in an Herbarium, or plant museum. I am currently a farmer at an educational homestead where I work to apply my plant knowledge to growing plants sustainably and teaching people about how amazing plants are!

  • Profile Question 1
What lessons have you learned in your career about how science works?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
Science is a pathway to figuring out the world around us, and it is an amazing continually adding upon itself journey. Although it is stressful being in a Science field, sometimes, everyone involved is adding to a very big picture. There is always something to be discovered and explored.

  • Profile Question 2
Can you describe your attitude toward science when you were in high school?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
In highschool, I really enjoyed science class, but was never strong in math so I thought I would never be useful or successful in any STEM field. I found plants to be so fascinating because of how they were to part of my life, yet so different than me. I set my mind to go into a botany career and am still developing my journey in science, whether I was "good" at math in highschool or not, because there is room for everyone in science.

  • Profile Question 3
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Get involved with different types of programs and be curious. Asking questions is a huge part of science, the other is being organized and consistent with getting information about the topic. Prepare by being part of citizen science activities, reading current science news, and being open to being wrong about things. It's about getting the data and seeing what is shows you, not trying to prove your right. Science is fun and there is a lot to explore!

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
