Profile

  • Time Zone
    Eastern

  • Organization
    Cornell university

  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I am interested in evolution and evolutionary patterns generally. I study plant genetic sequences in order to look for organismal relationships (how species A is related to species B), how ancestral shared traits are transmitted through generations and how distantly related plants have encountered similar solutions for the same environmental problem (heat, cold, drought).

  • Profile Question 1
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
The passion fruit family. It is one of my favorites juices and the flowers are gorgeous!

  • Profile Question 2
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I had the desire since middle school to become a biologist. I was always curious about how other living beings were somehow connected. I only chose to pursue a scientific/academic career when I was in college, after experimenting a couple of different research lines.

  • Profile Question 3
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
There is always something new and interesting to look forward to. If you are curious enough, you will certainly encounter new fields or collaborations to do exciting things.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
