  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
Plant ecology, fire ecology, restoration, and conservation

  • Profile Question 1
What is a typical day like for you?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
For the current project I am working on, we are measuring oak regeneration in small, manmade gaps in eastern oak-hickory forests. So a typical day for me involves a lot of hiking and measuring seedlings and saplings. I get to spend most my day outside looking at plants!

  • Profile Question 2
Do you have advice for students about preparing for a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
When I was a student, I changed my career path 4 different times. Never feel committed to something you are unsure of. It's okay to change your plans and to try different fields in the hope of finding what's right for you!

  • Profile Question 3
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
I decided to pursue a career in botany/ecology after working at the botanical gardens for 2 summers while in college. I realized that I loved working outdoors, and that I found plants to be incredibly interesting.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
