  I'm interested in how plants that have been brought to North America from other parts of the world affect the ecosystem and native plants here. Specifically, my research looked at dormant seeds buried in the soil of oak woodlands, and whether there were enough seeds there to bring back the historic ecosystem after an introduced shrub was removed.

Congratulations on finalizing your experiment! I agree that these are interesting results. This might mean that capsaicin plays some other important role in protecting seeds or helping them to develop. Did you find that the seeds exposed to capsaicin actually germinated slower? That would mean the capsaicin is inhibiting seed growth, which could help reduce competition for a pepper's own seeds.

I forgot to ask you a very important question early on: what species of plant are you using for seeds?

Well done on this, please share the data if you can. You carried this out very well and found an interesting result, I'm glad I was able to participate from a distance!

I don't think it's necessary to change your treatments. If the control group is growing fastest then those are very interesting results! If you'd like to try another sub-experiment with an increased dose of capsaicin and a greater ratio of water to ethanol, then those results would be interesting to compare to the ones that you're getting. But don't be discouraged if the control group turns out to be the fastest germinator! Those results would be very interesting even if they aren't what you were expecting.
