  • Role
Scientist Mentor: I will mentor teams of students online

  • Research Interests (300 words)
I study plant pathology which means learning about diseases of plants. My research interests are plant disease epidemiology, host-pathogen interactions, and disease management. In simple words: I want to learn which organisms causes different diseases (plant pathogens), how they cause it, what are favorable environmental conditions for the disease to occur, and how plants protect themselves against diseases. After getting this knowledge I also try to learn what can we do to control and manage these diseases. This will help us to decrease the disease levels in field and increase the crop production.

  • Profile Question 1
What is the coolest thing you have discovered or learned about plants?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
I was amazed by the ability of plants to fight against pathogens! Just like humans, plants are also attacked by other organisms including bacteria, and fungi. And they also have immune system which defends them against these pathogens.

  • Profile Question 2
When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
I was always curious to know about how plants grow and provide us food. My love for plants motivated me to pursue my Bachelors in Agriculture. In my Sophomore year, I got the chance to grow wheat and rice at field scale. While working with wheat rusts and smuts, I realized the importance of understanding and controlling plant diseases. It was then I decided to become a plant doctor!

  • Profile Question 3
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
Getting a chance to discover the unknown is the best thing. Being a scientist you can always explore how the world works. It also gives you an opportunity to make great discoveries and help others to make the world a better and happy place to live.

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
