  • Describe your teaching experience and interests in a brief public biography (200 words)
I have been teaching middle school science for the last 9 years. My students learn best through labs and activities geared around the standards we are learning. My area of focus in Physical Science which incorporates Chemistry and Physics. I try to make these difficult subjects for middle schoolers relevant by using real-world examples and my own personal experiences. As a transplant to Georgia from Minnesota, I try to bring my love of the outdoors, nature, sustainability, and conservation into even my physics lessons. My love of plants has extended into my classroom, and I have set up a small greenhouse in my room. The students love learning about all the new plants I trade the school secretary for, and they have enjoyed learning how to care for them. After our state testing in the spring, before they go to high school, I teach lessons on sustainability, recycling, and conservation as these are subjects near and dear to my heart. I am also an avid reader and incorporate knowledge of local and national events that I feel will make my lessons richer for them. I feel my students will benefit from a program such as this and I am hoping that I can enrich their learning even further.
