    When and why did you decide to go into a science career?

    When I was 16, I learned about the potential of agal-based biofuels and the idea of maximizing plant output to further advance society and to utilize science to build a better future was something that immediately directed me toward a career in science.

    What was the first science experiment you ever designed? How did it turn out?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
    My first project as an undergraduate researcher was to develop a method to determine the hardiness of seed pods from mutant lines of the oil-seed crop Camelina. After a few months of trying different methods, I finally found one that yielded consistent data and lead to some positive results. As far as I know, that method is still being employed in that lab
