  • Profile Question 1
What is your favorite plant? Why?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 1 here (300 words):
My favorite plant is a poinsettia because I did greenhouse nutrition work on this plant as a horticulture graduate student. I will never forget the excitement of walking into a greenhouse in November filled with masses of red, white and pink poinsettias - my crop.

  • Profile Question 2
What is best about being a scientist?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 2 here (300 words):
Understanding the scientific method and scientific principles. These help me sift through the news and the huge amount of misleading information in the media, on the internet.

  • Profile Question 3
What lessons have you learned in your career about how science works?

  • Answer the question you selected for profile question 3 here (300 words):
One lesson is that scientific endeavors entail hard, repetitive work and sometimes your hypothesis is false (or null). You have to be prepared for things not to work the way you expected. Science isn't wishful thinking!

  • Capacity: How many teams at a time are you comfortable working with?
