About Our Class

  • Teacher: Lisa Henderson
  • School: Griffin High School
  • Grades: High School Students (Grades 9,10,11,12)

What We're Doing

  • Planning to Start: 9/13/2021
  • Planning to End: 11/1/2021
  • Theme: Foundations of Genetics (traits, variation and environment in rapidly cycling Brassica)
  • Expected Breaks: 10/11 - 10/15
  • Course: General Biology

Our Outcomes

The investigation, Foundations of Genetics, will be used in my 10th grade biology class to reinforce student's understanding of genetics; Engage students in the practice of carrying out an experiment; Practice 21st century and science skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, asking questions, analyzing data and drawing conclusions and how to work in a lab setting. Furthermore, given the length of the investigation, the experiment will be used as a springboard to introduce and discuss other topics such as evolution and ecology. Many of the students who will be engaged in this project are not familiar with lab investigations and therefore using plants will be a good way to introduce students to the lab, given that most students have at least seen a plant before. I hope to give my 10th grade bio students an experience with developing, asking and communicating their on question while learning content.
