Outcomes

Planting Science provides an excellent opportunity for my Outdoor Science students to collaborate and use the investigative process. If given this opportunity, students from DeWitt Middle School will experience not only a hands-on inquiry based project but they will also improve on their communication skills by working with a team, sharing their process with a scientist and presenting their results. As a science teacher, I have not found another project that mimics the work of scientists as well as this. And I cannot think of a better way to motivate students into the world of science! There are two other pieces that I, as a teacher, find valuable. First, students will be learning about where their food comes from and challenges that farmers face in producing the food we eat. Second, and subtly, but perhaps most importantly, Planting Science?€™s scientists represent the wide range of people who can be scientists. And I am grateful for this opportunity for my students to see those people!
