  I study how plants became different species (speciate), how plants are related, and their adaptations that allow them to persist in their environment. For example, aquatic plants have specific anatomy that allow them to persist underwater while desert plants have other morphological adaptations to live in arid environments. I specifically study plant evolution and adaptation in the legume/bean family, an economically important family with many crop species (soy, chickpea, pinto beans, peanuts).

Great work on your experiment! Thank you for sharing your results with me. I have to say, I was surprised by how much of a difference in photosynthetic rates there were between the two plants, that is exciting you had a measurable difference and that you rejected your null hypothesis.

 

To echo what Joshua asked - do you have any further questions about your results? Any lingering ideas or interests for future studies you would want to conduct?

I'm Ellie Becklund, I was recently added as a collaborating scientist to your group. Great to meet you all! I study legume species and evolution at Ohio University. I like to go hiking and play disc golf (badly) in my free time.

 

Your past photosynthesis and respiration experiments sound interesting! We have ran similar studies in our courses at OU, exposing plants to different lights and seeing how they photosynthesize/respire. Did you find your results surprising, or what you expected? 

 

I read your attached research plan of your two new study proposals, they both sound great! I especially like your study on the two different species, and how photosynthesis might happen differently in different species. What do you predict will happen in your experiments? Do you think plant color affects photosynthesis (or respiration)? Why are plants different colors, if they are photosynthesizing still? Just some questions to think about as you run your experiments.
