I am sorry that I took so long to respond. I did take a look at your research question and think it is very interesting. Many times, in agriculture we want to produce plants with desirable traits. Naturally, size is an important trait because larger plants mean more food. So, I definitely think looking at how pathogens can alter the size of tubers is important to research.
I looked at the explore part and have a couple of questions. Were you at all interested in looking at the size of the lesions? It may be interesting to see if the visible size of the bacterial growth is correlated to the size of the potato? Additionally, when you mention smell it may help you to put this on a scale from 1-10, so that it is something you can quantify. Would you want to innoculate a potato at a lower temperature and compare how temperature can affect bacterial growth? Specifically, do you think growing the potato in a fridge would have a difference on the rate of the infection? It can be tricky to look at two variables but it can also help you gain more insight. Also, I am also curious if you are taking pictures of the potato.
