Hello! Me and Olivia are very excited working with you on this project and answer your questions.
"What do you think about plants or botanicals surrounding you?" - What I think about plants is that they are very smart and beautiful creatures. Not only they provide clean air, food and medicine, they are a source of aesthetic joy. When I walk in the forest or in the park or in the garden - it helps me to put thoughts in order and relieve psychological stress. As I grow plants, I can see how actually smart they are. The adaptable traits made them the most powerful and sustainable branch of evolution.
"What do they give you besides fresh O2?" - Provide food, medicine, raw material, source of vitamins and minerals.
"How your life has been affected by them?" - the plants always help to calm down and relief my stress. Myself, I plant some plants in my room. When I look at them, they help me to concentrate on my work. Moreover, I always stayed with my grandparents when my parents were working. They had a small garden where they grow vegetables and fruits. Therefore, my life was significantly impacted by them because I was helping out my grandparents with the labour outside
"What enjoys the most?" - In plants, I really enjoy watching how they grow. Every time I look at my pots with plants, I can see the progress and how big they become. It really makes me happy, because I feel that I make something significant.
"What are your favourite flowers?" - My favourite plant is a Sunflower. When I stayed with my grandparents, they always bring me joy because of its beautiful colour and interesting behaviour. I was happy to see how fast they grow, beside the fact that I was always responsible for collecting the seeds in the hot summer. Moreover, I think they are a great source of nutrients because in industry they are significantly used to produce oil.
"How can we prevent worlds hunger through plants?" - In my opinion, the plants are the solution to prevent the world hunger. Genetically modified plants, might provide all the nutrients that a person might need. For example, in my class I heard about the gene transfer from other organism to another by viruses. One of the example was the golden rice which had inserted gene from carrots - carotene. The golden rice provides valuable vitamins that cannot be found in other regions. I think with development of technology, we would be able to provide food for all people that are in need.
What is your favourite subject within biology? - My favourite subject within biology is genetics because it opens many opportunities to our world. Even though, it raises many ethical issues, I think with genetics we, as a community, can benefit significantly.
"What else do you enjoy doing or studying?" - besides biology, I like chemistry and physics.
" Do you have any ideas yet about what you'd like to do for a career?" - probably something connected to science, but I don't know for sure.

Preparing for the
24-25 School Year?
Teachers! If you're thinking of bringing PlantingScience mentoring into your classroom during the 24-25 school year, applications are now open for BOTH sessions!
To apply, log in to your PlantingScience account and locate the application link under 'Resources'. For more information, check out 'Join as a Teacher' above!
Scientists, this is a great time to update your availability and consider adding Investigation Themes to your preferences. If you are new to PlantingScience, check out 'Join as a Mentor'.
We're looking forward to working with you! Please contact us if you have any questions.

Scientist Mentors Needed!
As we grow and continue to pursue our F2 research, we are sending out this appeal to our Scientist community: please spread the word and invite your students, colleagues, and friends to sign up and mentor with us! Mentors range from late undergraduate students to emeritus scientists. Feel free to download our mentor flyer and post it in your institution to encourage others to join us, too!
Testimonials
“I liked that we didn’t know what was going to happen before we did the experiment. Instead of being taught something and then just doing an experiment to prove it, we made an attempt to find out what would happen ourselves.”
- PlantingScience Student
“At every opportunity, all involved kept reminding my students of the process that real science requires. This helped me to convince my students that they are really doing science - not just play acting until some future date.”
- PlantingScience Teacher
“It is a lot of fun interacting with students from an age group I don’t have the chance to spend a lot of time with. It is a good reminder of where public knowledge of plant science stands, and a great opportunity for me to practice explaining key concepts in a simple and straightforward way.”
